The Fantasticast Episode 305: Fantastic Four #205 - When Worlds Die

The Fantasticast Episode 305

The Crinkliest Chins Of All

Hello, and welcome to episode 305 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we're off to the unusual lands of outer space and further education, as most of the Fantastic Four head to the remains of Xandar to avert a Skrull invasion, whilst Johnny Storm heads to a surprisingly sparse dorm room to rather easily give up his right to privacy. Oh, and get hypnotised by a bunch of early CCTV cameras and an assassin who has changed his entire MO.

Marv Wolfman, Keith Pollard, Joe Sinnott, Glynis Wein, Jim Novak, and Jim Shooter present Fantastic Four #205 - When Worlds Die. And, as a bonus, we also find out what happens when you cross a diminuitive kaiju with an undersized shark tank, as we look at Godzilla, King Of The Monsters #21, which features the most logical way to deal with Godzilla that has been seen.

The Fantasticast Episode 304: Marvel Two-in-One #49 - The Curse of Crawlinswood

The Fantasticast Episode 303

The Unexpected Popeye

Hello, and welcome to episode 304 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

Well, normally we would, but thanks to the a dose of real life, Andy's got the week off. That doesn't stop Steve from hitting the longboxes and diving into a strange tale (hehe) featuring Doctor Strange and Ben Grimm taking down a centuries-old necromancer in a creepy house ripped directly from an episode of Dark Shadows in Marvel Two-in-One #49, by Jo Duffy, Alan Kupperberg, Gene Day, Carl Gafford, Gaspar Saladino, Roger Stern, Jim Shooter, Bob Budiansky, and Al Milgrom.

Joining Steve this week is Doctor Strange and 2000AD podcaster Conrad Leiden. Together, they examine the cartoonish, atmospheric artwork, the playful use of horror tropes, and what exactly constitutes a team-up when one of the heroes has no idea that the other one is there. As a bonus, they also dive into Godzilla, King Of The Monsters #20, where a museum turns out to be a terrible place to store a rapidly-growing lizard, and the Fantastic Four go toe-to-toe with one of the most iconic kaiju of all time.

The Fantasticast Episode 303: Fantastic Four #204 - The Andromeda Attack

The Fantasticast Episode 303

The Hulk Changes His Mind

Hello, and welcome to episode 303 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we spend time loitering in the early stages of a grand Fantastic Four epic. An alien princess has arrived in the Baxter Building, Johnny's got an urge to return to full-time education, an ex-girlfriend lurks in the margins of the story, a building explodes (but it's all fine, nothing to worry about), and a soon-to-be-cancelled book starts working its way into the plot of the Fantastic Four.

Marv Wolfman, Keith Pollard, Joe Sinnott, Francoise Mouly, Jim Novak, Jim Shooter, and Al Milgrom present Fantastic Four #204 - The Andromeda Attack, the first chapter in a cosmic epic that will take the Fantastic Four in the heart of an intergalactic war. And also features the return of the one villain that we would have put actual money on never showing his magnificently-bearded face ever again.

The Fantasticast Episode 302: Marvel Two-in-One #48 - My Master, Machinesmith

The Fantasticast Episode 302

The Other Faceless Ones

Hello, and welcome to episode 302 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we're returning to the hallowed cobbles of Yancy Street... before diving to the slightly-less hallowed underground villainous lairs of Yancy Street, as The Thing struggles against Machinesmith and Mr Carnation, with the captured Yancy Street Gang in danger. Who could possibly help him? Well, this time, it's the most over-designed hero of the 1970s - Jack of Hearts.

Bill Mantlo, Chic Stone, Tex Blaisdell, Mario Sen, Elaine Hendl, Roger Stern, and Jim Shooter present Marvel Two-in-One #48, in which a different approach to the inking gives some unusual responses, a sharp-edged rocket-propelled wedge does something surprising, a training simulation loses its potency when it moves outdoors, and there's more than one robot.
